Huanhuan Bai
Dr. Huanhuan (Hannah) Bai joined the shared research facility in August 2025 and will operate the newly acquired FIB-SEM, expanding WVU’s materials characterization capabilities.
Dr. Bai earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) in 2013 and 2016, respectively. She began her career in 2016 as an R&D engineer at NSK, followed by a role as a metallurgy engineer at Metalink Special Alloys Corporation in 2017.
In 2018, Dr. Bai began her PhD studies in Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Kentucky under the supervision of Prof. Thomas John Balk, focusing on physical vapor deposition (PVD) and dispenser cathode materials. During her doctoral research, she developed expertise in materials characterization techniques including FIB-SEM, EDS, EBSD, XPS, XRD, TEM, and thin-film sputtering. She earned her PhD in 2024 and subsequently worked for one year as a postdoctoral materials engineer at Secat Inc., specializing in aluminum alloys, before joining WVU Shared Research Facilities.
