Where to Start

1. Register

WVU Shared Research Facilities (SRF) uses the iLab Solutions reservation software for instrument reservations and invoicing.

To register as a user of the SRF for the Cleanrooms, Materials Characterization, Electron Microscopy, and BioNano Research facilities:

1. Log in to the main WVU iLab page at https://wvu.corefacilities.org

2a. WVU students, faculty, staff: Select "Sign in using WVU credentials" and log in using your WVU ID and password

2b. Non-WVU students, faculty, staff: Select "Sign in using iLab credentials" and follow iLab's instructions.

3a. WVU Users:  From the list of PIs, choose your advisor. Your PI will receive a message from iLab requesting that you be approved for his or her lab. The PI will also assign the appropriate funding "string(s)" that you will select when you make your instrument reservations. If your advisor is not listed, please ask the advisor to create his or her own iLab account first so that you can then get your iLab acount.

3b. WVU PIs: Follow steps 1 and 2. Look for the "my labs" link in the left menu bar. Hover over and click that link to see your lab management page. Under "Membership Requests" click the "Accept" button to the right for each of your users. Use the "Members" tab on the upper right to set individual spending limits and lab-wide limits. The default limit is $5,000 per individual.

  • Some instruments require several training sessions. Ask your SRF Manager for details.
  • Do not request training too far in advance. You learn how to use the instruments by working on them. If too much time elapses between your training and your request to use an instrument, that manager my require that you re-train on the instrument at a cost to your PI.
  • Focus first on getting comfortable with a smaller number of instruments, then expand to others.
